The Literature Resource Center
See Search Tips
The Literature Resource Center is database of articles from research journals and
Gale publications with a literary focus. GaleNet is the place to go for research on
literature. If you have an assignment for English or Drama class requiring information
about a writer, literary topic or piece of literature, or if you need an article on a
particular book, poem or author, this is the database to use. All articles are full-text
and hale from reputable sources.
The LRC can be searched by author, literary form, genre, time period and more.
Some print reference sources digitized and searchable include the Biography Resource
Center, Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Literary Criticism Select,
Drama Criticism, Dictionary of Literary Biography and the Twayne Authors
Series.
The Literature Resource Center covers more than 90,000 novelists, poets, essayists,
journalists and other writers, with in-depth coverage of 2,000 of the most-studied
authors. Search by author name, title, genre, literary movement or literary themes, or
combine criteria to create a highly-targeted custom search path.
Not only can you find out about authors and genres, but you can access full-text journal
articles, book reviews, criticism, and connect to Internet resources on your topic of
interest. You can also use the Encyclopedia of Literature to define terms or to
see an explanation of a particular literary movement.
Use the Literature Resource Center anytime you are curious about a writer of any type,
including world authors, historians, scholars and poets.
Search Tips
There are many ways to search the LRC, but these are the four major searches:
- Author search: The default is an author search; enter the first and last
name for the best results.
- Title search: Search for the title by keywords or the whole title and narrow the
results down by using the author's name. Many authors have written works with the same title,
so this extra step should help with getting the search as specific as possible.
- Keyword search: Searches all of the fields, including the text of articles. An
openly vague search, but helpful if you do not know exactly what you would like to find.
- Authors by Type: Find authors by nationality, gender, dates of life,
genre, theme, ethnicity, literary movement or time period.
- Advanced Search: Allows the searcher to examine a number of different
fields at the same time. More specific than the keyword search because it allows
the searcher to choose specific fields.
