What is Lexis Nexis?

Lexis Nexis is an article database with news, statistics, and legal information for researchers. LN has full text articles from newspapers and magazines, transcripts from news agencies, court cases and their verdicts, statistics, and legislation information.

When should I use Lexis Nexis?

When researching, if you are looking for information that is very current, e.g. news that happened yesterday, check out Lexis Nexis. The newspapers included in this database are as recent as today's news. The wires and transcrips are also kept very current. ALSO, if you need legislative information of any kind, seek it through Lexis Nexis.

Search Tips

You will have four choices for searching LN:

  • News - If you are looking for an article, in an American or non-American publication, check here. The news options include searching General news (includes all newspapers, journals, magazines, individual publications and publications by area), Wires (includes news services around the world), Transcripts, and Foreign Language News.

  • Legal Research - for Supreme Court Cases, State High Court Cases, Law Reviews, U.S. Laws, and State Law Digest.

  • Legislation - see bill information, Congressional voting records, Congressional member information, and State Bill information, including a State Legislative calendar.

  • Statistics - you name it, there's probably a statistic to prove it.
